According to the Bend Bulletin sports section, the Seattle Mariners are in second place in their division, only 15 games out of first place, and they have moved to an even .500 for the first time this year. I will admit I’m not much of a fan since Ichiro left. I mean, what kind of fan roots for a team to win half their games?
I also see a story from Budapest about the World swimming games. It seems we have added new events, the most puzzling of which is solo synchronized (?) swimming. I can’t quite get my head around that one. How can you not be in sync with yourself? I guess you could drown or fall in the pool by accident and be out of sync. Anyway, the Russian swimmer Svetlanna Kolesnichenko is the gold medal winner for solo synchronized swimming. Perhaps sports writer Paul Newberry should get a medal just for learning to spell Kolesnichenko.
