Recently I was having lunch at a local restaurant when I saw a young woman…maybe a “millennial”… bolt from the booth she was sitting at, trot out the door and run to her parked car. She was busy pushing her electronic key the whole time. I wondered what bee was in her bonnet. She popped the passenger door open and retrieved her iPhone.
I’ll never know why, but when I walked by her booth, she and her friends were busy staring into iPhones, comfortably alone together.
At the risk of dating myself, I had to wonder, “Why?”

Rod… this has been a few year back, so it’s even more prevalent today.
We were at a mall in Idaho Falls, when a young woman staffing a phone accessories kiosk beckoned us over. She wanted to show my daughter the new line of protective covers.
She told us she thought she lost her phone earlier. It was a horrifying experience. She proudly held out her iPhone and said, “My whole life’s on there.”
I’ll never forget it.
That lady you saw, Rod, wasn’t running for a phone. She was running for her life!

Thanks for the story. I feel sad for these lost souls, but maybe each will outgrow this artificial connection to “life.”
