Sometimes phonetic spelling makes more sense than the “correct” or standard spelling. Children know this. Take the word “yacht” for example. One of the budding writers in my family thinks it should be spelled “yot.” I smiled when I first read this. And then I thought, “Why not? Why not yot, not yacht? Ought not yot be preferred to yacht?” It has my vote. :)-
